Expedition System Progress
Draft Version 2 of my "Ship Operations"

Today I worked on refining the ship diagram from yesterday, which started out as a GoodNotes 5 diagram drawn on my iPad, printed out, and then annotated by hand.

The original GoodNotes 5 document printed and then annotated by hand. Kind of a mess!

The idea behind the revised diagram, other than making something more easily editable, is to have a map of all the moving parts of my operation.

You may find the full-resolution Whimsical document easier to read than this article's header image. You can print the diagram or save as PDF.

The top half of the diagram under Virtual Interactions has these major elements:

  • My legacy website at davidseah.com, which has my productivity-related content from 2004 through 2022.
  • My current website at dsriseah.com, which has newer content since 2022 and serves more as a digital garden of research notes and ongoing Groundhog Day Resolutions reports.
  • My online shop, currently mothballed while I get this expedition going.
  • Both legacy and federated social media presences.

The bottom half of the diagram are currently called Network Interactions, but these should more properly be placed underneath the ship's hull because these interactions are the metaphorical ocean through which the ship sails. Without interaction, the ship can't move at all! Here I list the specific kinds of interactions I'm seeking:

  • Special Interest Groups (SIGs) on the left, where talk about subjects of mutual interest and hopefully collaborate on related projects. These SIGs are ones I am particularly interested in creating.
  • Networking Opportunities on the right, where I might find people that share some personal values with interesting stories to tell.
  • A publication of some kind, where people from both SIGs and interested acquaintances can use as an anchor for forming alliances and also produce beacons that help spread the work we're doing.

Lastly, there is the Personal Interactions bubble where work that I'm doing solo appears

  • Local workshops that I'll run
  • Project contract work
  • 1-on-1 meetings with people

The interaction between all three of these areas, I hope, generates motion for me. I'm still working out the operational details, but for now this Ship's Diagram helps me visualize where everything fits.
